This class is built for those wanting to learn or refine the fundamentals of hunting North American big game, with a focus on Mule Deer sized animals. This course takes a comprehensive look at all aspects of hunting from personal gear choices, appropriate firearms, strategies in locating your game, and caring for your harvest after the shot.
The class includes a pre-dinner tasting of at least four different types of regional big game species. After the tasting you will enjoy a dinner prepared from the hunter's harvest. A meal rooted in simplicity, fresh ingredients, and comfort.
The Hunt will deliver the most realistic hunting experience possible. As such, it is a physically demanding class that will include: many hours under actual field conditions, hiking 2-3 miles in mountainous terrain, stalking game, and shooting in actual backcountry settings, all while learning and using the field positions necessary to make a clean shot in uneven terrain.
Your rifle selection should be centered around a standard hunting rifle for the taking of an animal in the 150-250 pound range. A bolt action rifle is preferred, in .24 to .30 caliber, non-magnum [ranges will be out to 350 yards], mounted with a variable mid-range scope would be ideal for this class. Target or tactical rifles are not recommended.
If you are unsure or have a special caliber request, please ask.
