There is no one that teaches like Clint, and very few environments like Thunder Ranch. Not just because of his unique and entertaining delivery, but because he is one of the few that speaks from personal experience, not just reading about it. There are very few Teachers of Weapons Craft that have Military combat experience, LEO, and four plus decades of teaching Weapons Craft to everyone from first time shooters, to Operators.

I think it important for anyone who is considering attending this class to clearly understand that it is an Instructor, better yet, Teacher, class. As such the round count is intentionally lower than most classes. If your looking for a high round count, run and gun class this is not, nor is intended to be, it.

Teaching teachers the What, Why and How – and WHY it is SO important to teach this to students cannot be understated. The IDC class excels at this.

The class content was extremely well thought out and delivered in digestible layers, one building on the last, culminating in 3 days of extensive of Instructor Training.

Once again the intention of delivering a very thorough syllabus was obvious in every segment of the class. However I feel the time spent running through the shoot house could have been shorter, or potentially skipped, as very few have the resources to build one, and even fewer have any business teaching tactics. A fact that was clearly stated by Clint during the class.

To be a good teacher, one must always be a student and though there are other great schools in the U.S., there is only one Thunder Ranch and only one team like Clint & Heidi Smith.

The course was productive for me. I gleaned a few tips and suggestions to become a better instructor. I think for future classes a bit less shooting and more individual drill running and range control would benefit attendees. i.e. Each student will perform several verbal/physical demonstrations in range safety, range commands, drawing instruction, malfunctions, shooting errors/correction, proper loading/reloading, equipment check and a brief emergency reaction drill. These drills should be critiqued by staff instructors and repeated until the student has more confidence and perfect delivery of said information. Handouts were quite helpful. A list of suppliers ( targets, first aid kits, audio equipment, insurance suppliers, types of background checks, etc) would be helpful in getting the right gear to potential school instructors. Price was affordable and anyone interested in becoming a better instructor would be well advised to get on board.

This was my first time taking a class at Thunder Ranch and I was not disappointed. If you’re looking to teach firearms, you owe it to yourself to take this course. Clint and Heidi are incredible people and run a fantastic school. Their staff are top notch as well as the facilities. I highly recommend this class!
