The “Mid-Range Rifle” class was educational, entertaining and occasionally humbling. It was a fantastic experience that significantly improved my shooting and operational skills while I gained a deeper understanding of the logic behind the approach. Clint Smith willingly shared his insights and the experienced staff helped me transfer those insights into execution. The staff was adept at working with individuals of varying experience and skill level. I highly recommend the course.

I went in to the “Mid-Rang Rifle” course never shooting more than 400 yards and came out being able to shoot a 6X6 cube at 700 yards and have the confidence I could shoot much further. The staff that helped with the class was very knowledgeable and Clint and Heidi made it even more enjoyable. The scenery makes it even more valuable. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn how to fight, shoot. or hunt with mid range rifles.

I read an article about Clint Smith where he answered the question “which weapon would you choose if you knew someone was going to break into your house and you needed to defend yourself and your family?” His paraphrased answer was ” a big 4×4 pick up truck. I would get everybody out of the house, and get out of harms way “. I decided that this was a guy that I wanted to learn from. No bragging, no tough guy shit, no Hollywood crap, just common sense, logic and a voice from experience. The MRRC is a way to enhance your marksmanship with a 7.62 NATO rifle (there were other calibers). I left the course with a new skill set in weapons craft. I got to spot for another shooter, watch their bullet trails through the air, and actually see the copper bullet the last few meters before impact. I learned new terminology to communicate with a shooter.
The instructors were awesome. Roger, the lead instructor, did a great job ensuring optimal learning. Other instructors, Brandon, George, and Spencer are a wealth of knowledge. By the time I left the class, I was having no problems shooting at 700 yards.
Upon return at my local range, the 600 yard guys, with their specialty single shot guns and 50x scopes were impressed with my groupings. You can not go wrong with taking this course.

Just finish up on the midrange rifle course. The class was great. No matter how much you think you know, if go in with the right aditude you will learn. Clint and all the guys at Thunder Ranch are a wealth of knowledge. They will push you and your equipment. But it is always in a helpful way. You will learn your strengths and weaknesses. You will learn the strength and faults in you platform as well. The best part is will also be a hell of a lot of fun. Bring the best rifle platform you can afford .308 ,6.5. I wish I had brought knee and elbow pads. Soft pads from the sporting goods store will do. You don’t have to get all tactical. Bring cloths for any weather. Eat a slice of humble pie and have fun.

Excellent class. I learned more in three days with Thunder Ranch staff than I did in a week long sniper course. This class was an excellent confidence builder using a scoped rifle for precision shooting at various distances. The knowledge of Clint and the instructors is awesome and better than most I’ve learned from. I would highly recommend this class for SWAT snipers and civilians who just want to learn mid range marksmanship.

This class was amazing. Everything from the staff to the facility far exceeded any of my expectations. I’m a new shooter, picking up my first firearm just under 5 years ago, and learned more in 3 days at Thunder Ranch than all of the other time combined. I only have one suggestion to make. If you’re thinking about buying ‘another’ gun… don’t. Take that money and invest it into training. I’m looking forward to taking more courses in the future at Thunder Ranch

Awesome class! I took this class in 2009 and it was a different class. You guys are always evolving. I liked all the steel you had out on the course. Really awesome shooting at a 6 inch steel at 500 yards (humbling). It’s a real treat to come to Thunder ranch and as always the instructors were awesome. Thanks again!

    Don’t waste your money…
on anything other than taking this class!
I went into this training with very high expectations and they were all exceeded. I learned how to operate my scope the correct way dialing DOPE and practicing holdovers. Got to practice spotting and communicating with another shooter which helped me appreciate the role of a good spotter. Shot twice as far as I ever have before consistently. Liked how safety was a MAJOR focus. Met a bunch of great people at the class. Make sure to come prepared for any type of weather and bring a shooting mat and I recommend knee pads. The instructors are TOP NOTCH guys that communicate effectively and assure you are understanding the directions and concepts as you go. The pace of the class is perfect. Clint and Heidi were very gracious hosts and I couldn’t have felt more welcome. I wouldn’t have minded more lecture time or more time with Clint present but i understand the circumstances. I will certainly be back for more. Thanks Thunder Ranch!

This course was fantastic! I really can’t say enough about Clint, Heidi and their entire staff. Every single member of the staff was super knowledgeable, eager to help and, most importantly, approachable. I’ve been to other bolt-gun/SWAT sniper courses and this was, by far, the best one yet and the most fun. I learned more about how to use my scope and hold overs in three days than I’ve learned in almost three years of shooting a precision rifle. The range has a ton of steel targets to shoot that make it fun and engaging. The Thunder Ranch property is beautiful and very well maintained…I didn’t want to leave! Bring clothes for any type of weather and have fun!

Another fantastic class at Thunder Ranch! I’d heard a bit about MRRC from a couple of friends that had taken the class a number of years back, so I had a very basic understanding from them going in. Wow, was I blown away! The actual class far surpassed all my expectations. The range is set up beautifully for all distances out to 700 and everything in between. Different types of steel, different scenarios. Most of the shooting is done prone, so a shooting mat and bipods are a must. Probably more of a bolt rifle class than anything else, but semi-auto’s ok too. The instruction is superb. From Clint, (what can I say that hasn’t already been said), there’s a reason they call him Yoda. Heidi the “Sniperess” and sweetest person you’ll ever meet, to all the other instructors.. Roger, Jack, Doc. Spence and Magic Mike. These guys really know their stuff and come from SWAT and LE backgrounds, and they all really shoot! You couldn’t ask for a more knowledgeable, friendlier, helpful bunch of guys. Everything you’d expect from a class of this caliber. Wind calls, dialing dope, writing down actual data for your own rifle, learning how to work the top and bottom of your reticle without dialing, quick shots, stress/pressure shots, communication.. just like in the real world. If you screw up, you screw up and they’ll let you know you did and show you how to correct it. Hey .308 isn’t the end all be all caliber either. There were a bunch of us in the class shooting 6.5 Creed Clint likes to refer to as 6.5 fuck all. Fantastic!! There were some really exceptional rifles in the class, but I shot a Ruger RPR and did just fine. That was actually one of my bigger takeaways. You don’t have to have a $5,000 custom rifle for the class. Good, match ammo is a must. Shooting mat is a must and clothing for any situation, just like in the real world. From the moment you get there and start the safety briefing, you know you’re in for some world class training, and you’re very welcomed! Safety is emphasized constantly from the moment the class starts all the way till the very end. Lot of knowledge learned and lasting memories made. Just a fantastic, confidence-building experience for anyone looking to improve their skills and stretch out their range, for any reason. Really looking forward to taking the High Angle class as the follow-on to MRRC.

Thank-you Heidi, Clint and your excellent staff!! All of my short-comings in long-range shooting were revealed and correctable; i.e. the need for a scope designed for long-range shooting, improved rifle stock for my rifle, etc. Unfortunately, I can’t replace this beat-up old body but your patience with me netted a vast improvement of my skills! Planning to be at your Carbine Class next spring. NOBODY DOES IT BETTER, thank-you!
